How to Unload a Truck With a Portable Yard Ramp
We had a problem. We had a truck coming to our warehouse, but we didn’t have a loading dock. Not only that, but this was a truck carrying 2 forklifts, and we had no way to unload without using a costly tow truck.
Luckily, we had a GT26 yard ramp that we perfect for the job and we got it set up in just 15 minutes. Here is how we did it:
STEP 1: We usually have the yard ramp in the same spot, but every once in a while we need to move it into place. Moving the ramp is very easy, you just attach it to the forklift with the chain and lift. This is a great way to conserve space on your lot when you need it.
STEP 2: Once you have the loading ramp in place, determine how high you need the ramp platform to be. This will vary depending on what sort of trailer or container you are unloading. Don’t worry, you can always make adjustments later.
STEP 3: After determining how high you need the ramp platform, drop the jacks to the appropriate height. Make sure to drop all five jacks, the three in the front and the two in the middle.
STEP 4: Use the hand crank to make the finishing touches, dropping the jacks until they meet the ground. Make sure to do this to the three jacks in the front, and the two in the middle.
STEP 5: Use the wheel axle hand-crank to raise the wheels off the ground. Make sure to ensure that the tire is fully off the ground and no longer making contact with the ground.
STEP 6: The forklift ramp is ready to go! Simply have the driver back up and align with the ramp. If the height isn’t right, you can use the hand-crank to make adjustments. There is 12” of range for the hand crank.
